Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the importance of innovation and talents in development on Wednesday.
Innovation-driven growth can be instrumental to China's growth and talents are the key for innovation, Xi said at a panel discussion with deputies from Guangdong Province at the first session of the 13th National People's Congress, China's national legislature.
"Development is the top priority, talent is the primary resource, and innovation is the primary driver. If China does not follow the path of the innovation-driven development, the new growth drivers would not be able to replace the old ones, and the country would not be truly strong. To be strong, we need innovation, and to foster innovation, we need talents," said Xi.
The southern province Guangdong is one of the frontier provinces carrying out China's reform and opening-up policy.
In the discussion, Xi reinforced Chinese government's commitment to furthering the reform and opening-up policy.
Xi reiterated the importance of developing China's rural areas as around 300 to 400 million people will still live there in the future.
"The mission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is to seek happiness for the Chinese people. We will make efforts to solve the problems in whatever aspect where people do not feel happy, glad, or satisfied," said Xi.
The Chinese president said he fully supports the draft amendment to the constitution, emphasizing it's a major decision made by the CPC Central Committee from the perspective of maintaining and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and of strategic importance.
It's also a major move to advance the rule of law as well as modernize and improve governance, said Xi.
