Large-scale rallies were held in Ramallah, Palestine on Tuesday, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Nakba (catastrophe) Day, which marks the displacement of 750,000 Palestinians from their homeland during the Arab-Israeli War in 1948.
The rallies took place coincidently one day after Washington's transfer of its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem resulted in protests along the Gaza Strip border on Monday, leading to the death of at least 63 Palestinians in clashes with the Israeli forces.
At the rallies, Helmi al-Aaraj, a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, expressed his sympathy with the country, which has been bearing a state of warfare and instability in the past 70 year.
"The whole world, including the occupiers and the American administration, knows that the Palestinian people, though 70 years passed, are still afflicted. The children, the elders and the women remain steadfast to pursue freedom and independence of their homeland," said Aaraj.
Mohammed Alian, coordinator of the Higher Committee to Commemorate the Nakba, also blamed the Israeli forces for its strike against the ordinary Palestinian citizens.
"We condemn the massacre that killed Palestanians and left thousands wounded, as if it were a war between our people and the Israeli army armed with the most powerful weapons. However, as a Palestinian, we continue to struggle until our hopes and aspirations come true," said Alian.
The participants in the rallies also stressed that all attempts to stop the displaced Palestinians from returning to the occupied territory would be doomed to failure because of the determination and steadfastness of the refugees.
"The land is our land. This is our country. They are uprooting and we are planting. They are demolishing and we are building. And no one has a right to possess this country except the Canaanite Palestinians," said Fahad Abu al-Hajj, a Palestinian citizen.
"This is a full right for us to be a united country, that can not be renounced. It is a red line. Palestinians, whether residing in or out of his homeland, will make no concession or waiver on the right of returning," said Abdullah Ayouch, another citizen.
