"China has noticed the latest policy declaration of the United States, and we believe that all of you have noticed the response from the relevant sides in the international community. For China’s part, we think that in the practices over the past three years had proven that the comprehensive agreement on the Iran nuclear issue was effective. China always believes that safeguarding the integrity and the sanctity of the agreement will actually be conducive to preserving the nuclear non-proliferation regime and safeguarding peace and stability in the Middle East. We also think that effectively materializing and implementing this agreement will lead to the shaping of a model for solving other international hot-spot issues. Under the current circumstances, we urge all the parties concerned to take a responsible attitude, proceed from the long-term and overall perspective, rely on reality and rationality, continue to follow the right path of solving issues through diplomatic dialogs and properly manage differences so that the comprehensive deal will be executed. On this basis, all the parties should dedicate themselves to building mutual trust, and address other issues of their respective concerns. China will continue to maintain dialog and consultation with all relevant parties and devote itself to safeguarding and implementing the comprehensive agreement on Iran nuclear issue in an objective, fair, and responsible manner."

Storyline

Practice in the past three years has proven that the Iran nuclear deal, which was signed in 2015, has worked effectively, said Lu Kang, a spokesman of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lu made the statement at a press briefing on Wednesday, when commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump's Iran policy.

In a speech unveiling "a new Iran strategy" at the Heritage Foundation, a U.S.-based conservative think-tank, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged Iran to report to the International Atomic Energy Agency about its nuke program, end proliferation of its missiles, and stop supporting "terrorist groups" in the Middle East.

"China has noticed the latest policy declaration of the United States, and we believe that all of you have noticed the response from the relevant sides in the international community. For China's part, we think that in the practices over the past three years had proven that the comprehensive agreement on the Iran nuclear issue was effective," said Lu.

Lu added that China always believes safeguarding the sanctity and integrity of this comprehensive agreement will, in fact, be conducive to preserving nuclear non-proliferation regime and safeguarding peace and stability in the Middle East.

"We also think that effectively materializing and implementing this agreement will lead to the shaping of a model for solving other international hot-spot issues." said Lu.

"Under the current circumstances, we urge all the parties concerned to take a responsible attitude, proceed from the long-term and overall perspective, rely on reality and rationality, continue to follow the right path of solving issues through diplomatic dialogs and properly manage differences so that the comprehensive deal will be executed," Lu added.

The spokesman called on all the parties involved to dedicate themselves to building mutual trust, and are able to address other issues of their respective concerns on that basis.

Lu also stressed that China will continue to maintain dialog and consultation with all relevant parties and devote itself to safeguarding and implementing the comprehensive agreement on Iran nuclear issue in an objective, fair, and responsible manner.

The Iran nuclear deal, also known as the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action”, was reached between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany and the European Union, and was adopted by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2,231.

The U.S. President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that his country withdrew from the nuclear deal.
