A Magnitude 6.1 earthquake in Japan's Osaka Prefecture Monday destroyed roads and underground water pipeline, disrupting traffic and the normal supply of water.
In Takatsuki City, one of the worst hit areas, part of the underground water pipeline burst, with water spewing out and flooding the surrounding areas and causing the ground on a crossroad to sink.
"We just found the bursting point and completed the digging work. We are starting repairing the pipeline. We hope to finish it tomorrow morning. But we are not sure of the exact time for completion, as the work volume is huge," said Fujiwara Masaya, a staff member of the Business Department of the Osaka Water Supply Authority.
According to the emergency response department of Takatsuki, the earthquake did not cause extensive house collapsing or kill many people. It mainly damaged such infrastructure projects as water, electricity and gas supply, which all stopped operation in the city. The main tasks are to repair the infrastructure projects and provide water to the local people.
