"The spokesman of Chinese Ministry of Commerce has expressed China's solemn position on trade issues. It must be pointed out that some statements by U.S. side confound right and wrong. Their groundless accusations against China were meant to cover up U.S. unilateralist and protectionist practices. In disregard of the consensus reached by the two countries, the United States has acted capriciously and provoked again a trade war. This move has lost credibility with the world people and will hurt the interests of not only the people and enterprises of the two countries, but also those of the people around the world. China does not want a trade war, but is not afraid of such a war. We will continue to take effective measures to safeguard the interests of our country and people, to safeguard economic globalization and multilateral trading system. Meanwhile, regardless of the changes in the external environment, China will follow its set pace, stay committed to a people-centered approach, to advance reform and opening up, to push forward high-quality economic development, and to speed up the step to build a modern economic system. We urge the U.S. to act rationally and stop its words and actions that serve no one’s interests. That should be the only way out."

China will continue to take effectives measures to safeguard its interests in the trade disputes with the United States, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang at a regular press conference on Tuesday.

Geng Shuang made the remarks in reply to U.S. official’s accusations of Chinese trade policies.

The spokesman of Chinese Ministry of Commerce has expressed China's solemn position on trade issues. It must be pointed out that some statements by U.S. side confound right and wrong. Their groundless accusations against China were meant to cover up U.S. unilateralist and protectionist practices,” said Geng.

In disregard of the consensus reached by the two countries, the United States has acted capriciously and provoked again a trade war. This move has lost credibility with the world people and will hurt the interests of not only the people and enterprises of the two countries, but also those of the people around the world, the spokesman said.

"China does not want a trade war, but is not afraid of such a war. We will continue to take effective measures to safeguard the interests of our country and people, to safeguard economic globalization and multilateral trading system, ” said Geng.

Meanwhile, regardless of the changes in the external environment, China will follow the set pace, stay committed to a people-centered approach, to advance reform and opening up, to push forward high-quality economic development, and to speed up the step to build a modern economic system, said the spokesman.

"We urge the U.S. to act rationally and stop its words and actions that serve no one’s interests. That is the only way out,” he said.

The Trump administration has unveiled plans to impose additional 25 percent tariffs on Chinese goods worth around 50 billion U.S. dollars.

Shortly after Washington's announcement, China decided to impose additional duties on U.S. products with the same scale and intensity, as the U.S. latest move violates the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
