Storyline

Chinese actors Jachie Chan chose to launch the shooting of his new movie on the fourth day of the nine-day Shanghai International Film Festival.

Legendary action star Jackie Chan and wrestler-turned-comedian John Cena appeared at a ceremony for the shooting launch of their new action-thriller Project X on Tuesday in Shanghai.

The film focuses on a Chinese private security contractor (Chan) who is called in to extract the oil workers when a China-run oil refinery in the Middle East is attacked. When he learns that the attackers’ real plan is to steal a fortune in oil, he teams up with an American — a former Marine played by John Cena — to stop them.

The film is expected to come out on screen in 2019.

Also on Tuesday, Chinese actor Xu Zheng had his new movie Dying to Survive on limited release in Shanghai.

The two-hour film, directed by Wen Muye, was well-received by audience.

After the release, Wen, Xu, and other stars in the movie walked onto the stage to promote the movie.

The 21st Shanghai International Film Festival kicked off last Saturday.
