Storyline

Residents of east China's Fujian Province captured footage of high waves and floods caused by Typhoon Maria when it made landfall at 09:10 Wednesday in Lianjiang County.

Typhoon Maria, the eighth typhoon this year, brought gales of up to 42 meters per second near its eye, as it moved towards the province.

Rough waves brought by Maria damaged some seaside infrastructure in Tailu Town, Lianjiang County, a video showed.

The storm also wreaked havoc in the neighboring county of Luoyuan, as high waves spilled over levees and pounded fishing boats in the bay.

Videos also showed that the typhoon caused meters-high tides in Xiapu County.

After making landfall, the typhoon flooded a number of cities in the province.
