Storyline

Five people miraculously survived a serious traffic accident thanks to five anti-collision barrels, in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Thursday.

The terrible accident happened along the Chongqing-Chengdu Expressway at 14:38 and the surveillance camera captured the entire incident: a black car rushed directly towards the guardrails that separated the exit ramp from the main portion of the expressway, ramming into five barrels and then being propelled into midair before forcibly landing several meters away.

Li Meng, a local expressway law enforcement officer, said that the five people in the car only sustained minor injuries.

"Fortunately, the facilities on the expressway are impeccable and the five cone barrels along the median reduced the severity of the accident by a large extent. The five people, including the driver, only sustained minor injuries instead of any major ones," said Li.

The officers investigated the site and failed to find any sign of braking or a sudden change of direction by the car. They asked the driver and the passengers and came to the conclusion that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.

"The initial investigation of the accident showed that the driver was rather drowsy while driving. Further investigation is still underway," said Li.
