Storyline

All eyes were on Beijing on August 8, 2008, as the Olympic Games held its grand opening at China's national stadium, the Bird's Nest. On its 10th anniversary, an Olympic-themed expo opened Wednesday at the Beijing Exhibition Center, aiming to promote the legacy of the games and to drum up excitement for Beijing's next Olympic experience, the 2022 Winter Games.

The week-long exposition is running under the theme of "Twice Olympic Cities". It's meant to celebrate the cities which have hosted or will host two Olympic Games.

There are a range of projects on display, highlighting themes such as the Olympic heritage, China and the Silk Road and Olympia, Greece -- the site of the original Olympics.

The hope is that they can demonstrate how the Olympic Games can impact a host city's development, urban construction and social advancement.

In addition, the event also features some special projects, such as Olympics and Art, the Olympic Market Forum and Olympics and Sports Science which employs high technologies such as virtual reality.

"Here on display we have included some interactive scientific items for visitors. Apart from the items such as the Olympic torch, medals, mascots and posters, this equipment is designed to let more people, especially young people, get more involved in the Olympics," said Xia Sijun, the operations director of the exposition.

In addition to Beijing, the expo will also be held in Shanghai later this month as well.
