"Here is what I will say. There are right now fewer than 10 companies that are Chinese-owned that employ people in Kentucky. But we are working to increase that number and we're having significant conversations. There are nearly 9,000 people in Kentucky who work for a Chinese-owned company. But there could be more and there will be more."

Storyline

Matt Bevin, governor of the U.S. state of Kentucky, expressed his wish to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with China at the state level at a press briefing in Frankfort, Kentucky on Monday.

Bevin said that regardless of the policies adopted by the Federal Government of the United States, the desire of the state governments to strengthen trade and people-to-people exchanges with China is very strong.

He also noted that Chinese companies had helped create about 9,000 jobs for locals and Kentucky would simplify the approval process for investments to attract more investors.

"Here is what I will say. There are right now fewer than 10 companies that are Chinese-owned that employ people in Kentucky. But we are working to increase that number and we're having significant conversations. There are nearly 9,000 people in Kentucky who work for a Chinese-owned company. But there could be more and there will be more," said Bevin.

Bevin added that China and the U.S. are the two largest economies in the world and are important trade partners of each other. He believes that the trade issues will be resolved eventually.

Besides, the governor expected the upcoming international import expo in Shanghai to be a platform where Kentucky could find opportunities to expand its export to China in areas including automotive, aviation, pharmaceutical and agriculture.

According to Bevin, the uncertainty of the two countries' markets could only cause a lose-lose situation and cooperation is the only way to create mutual benefits.
