Storyline


Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with visiting French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Beijing on Thursday, vowing to promote cooperation in various fields.

Wang noted since French President Macron visited China in January, communication and coordination have been closely maintained between the two countries.

"Since January, we have been in close communication and coordination. We have also made much progress in implementing consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries," said Wang.

Wang noted that next year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 100th anniversary of the Chinese work-study program in France, which will be of special significance for China-France relations.

"We will take advantage of the opportunity brought by the 55th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic ties, and the 100th anniversary of the Chinese work-study program in France. We will hold a series of commemorative activities," said Wang.

He also stressed that China is willing to enhance communication with the French side in building the Belt and Road and explore new ways of cooperation, calling on the two sides to make contributions to maintaining multilateralism, improving global governance, and promoting world peace and development.

Le Drian said France is willing to advance cooperation with China in all areas and to explore ways of cooperation in construction of the Belt and Road.

The two foreign ministers also agreed to protect multilateralism and free trade, encourage exchanges of personnel, and reach consensus on key international issues.
