Storyline


The high-speed railway linking Hong Kong with the Chinese mainland is ready to start operation on Sept. 23.

The Guangzhou Railway Group Corporation of south China's Guangdong Province has added various facilities at the Shenzhen North Railway Station to ensure the smooth operation of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway.

They have added more special ticket windows, passenger guide signs, and a total of 16 automatic ticket vending machines in the waiting areas of the station, which enables the recognition of the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Residents.

Besides, the station added more facilities in the special waiting areas, which are set up for the aged, children and the pregnant. They have refurnished 6,900 seats in the waiting area, and added facilities including cribs, water dispensers and power supplies in the nursing room of the station.

"All automatic ticket vending machines at Guangzhou South Railway Station can be used to purchase and collect tickets, 60 of them operating faster. It will only takes about 10 seconds for passengers from Hong Kong to pick up their tickets with Mainland Travel Permit," said Liu Hui, deputy Party secretary of the Guangzhou South Railway Station.

According to the railway department, the trains will be arranged according to the passenger flow in the early days of the operation of the railway. A total of 95 pair electric multiple unit (EMU) trains will operate on Sept. 23, while a total of 127 pairs will operate during the peak time.

The construction of the railway started in 2010. It is a key part of the national high-speed railway network. The 26-km Hong Kong section starts from the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. It will offer direct services to 44 Chinese mainland destinations.
