Chinese embassy in the Dominican Republic was inaugurated on Friday in the capital city of Santo Domingo.
Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Dominican Republic counterpart Miguel Vargas jointly unveiled the new embassy.
President of the Dominican Republic's Chamber of Deputies Radhames Camacho, and former Dominican Presidents Leonel Fernandez and Hipolito Mejia attended the ceremony.
China and the Dominican Republic signed a joint communique in Beijing on May 1 on the establishment of diplomatic relations.
"Dear friends, today what we have unveiled is not only the Chinese embassy to the Dominican Republic, but also a new chapter of bilateral historical ties. It sets a milestone in the diplomatic history of the Dominican Republic," said Vargas.
Wang said the two sides have made significant and positive progress in the recent four months since they established diplomatic ties and this speaks volume for the fact that the establishment of diplomatic relations is in accordance with the will of the peoples and complies with the irresistible trend of the times.
Wang also called for an accelerated development for the bilateral relations.
China and the Dominican Republic set up representative offices mutually in the 1990s to promote trade development. The Dominican Republic is now the largest trade partner of China in the Caribbean area while China has also become the country's second largest source of imports.
