The Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL) starts operation on Sunday morning, marking the full open of the whole line of XRL.
In Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, high-speed train G5711 left Shenzhen North Railway Station to head for Hong Kong West Kowloon Station at 06:44. The whole journey takes only 19 minutes.
Meanwhile, high-speed train G5736 left Hong Kong West Kowloon Station at 07:00 to head for Shenzhen North Railway Station.
With a length of 26 km and a design speed of 200 km per hour, the Hong Kong section is the last part of the 142 km XRL and was constructed beginning from 2010.
At present, 25 pairs of high-speed trains have been arranged to shuttle between Shenzhen and West Kowloon.
The opening of XRL marks Hong Kong's official connection with the national high-speed railway network and it enables the residents in Hong Kong to reach 44 cities in the mainland.
The passenger volume handled by the XRL is expected to reach 80,000 daily at the preliminary stage.
