The old town of Tai'erzhuang District in east China's Shandong Province has brightened its streets and avenues with lanterns to celebrate the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Monday, Sept. 24 this year.
Tens of thousands of lanterns and lights, which combine traditional and modern elements, created a strong festive atmosphere, including flowers, moon and music.
"It is our first time to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival without staying with our family at home, but we love it here, feeling as if our entire country flourishes and people live in peace. It's really beautiful," said Han Luyao, a tourist from the city of Zibo in the province.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important festivals in China, which is celebrated each year on the 15th day of the eighth month on the lunar calendar when the moon is full. Traditionally, it's a time for family reunion, and family members and relatives enjoy mooncakes together.
