Storyline

As a great platform to boost economic and trade exchanges, the ongoing first-ever China International Import Expo (CIIE) has seen booming deals signed between international exhibitors and Chinese buyers.

The deals have covered a wide range of areas including energy, steel, defense industry and manufacturing.

Brazilian Trade and Investment Bureau ApexBrasil and EPEC, an e-commerce platform of China's Sinopec, signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in petroleum and chemical products, electromechanical equipment, coal and materials.

"We strongly hope that this exhibition will be a turning point in our trade with China. But our biggest challenge today is to diversify our exports to China, to bring new sectors to what we sell to China, and also to reach the Chinese consumers," said Augusto Castro, general manager of ApexBrasil China.

China National Offshore Oil Corporation, the largest offshore oil and gas producer in China, has signed agreements with Siemens, ABB and other international suppliers on import.

China Silk Corporation, one of the country's large state-owned enterprises operated by Central Government agencies, has signed contracts with four different foreign companies over importing chemical raw materials and food, as part of its efforts to improve economic, trade and cultural exchanges with countries on the routes of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (Belt and Road).

In terms of the defense industry, 12 enterprise representatives with Chinese defense corporation Norinco Group has independently signed agreements with 22 international partners over smart and high-end manufacturing, agricultural products, minerals, and fine chemical engineering.

In addition, regional trade organizations have also seen a series of agreements. The Frey-Sohler estate of France has signed a big deal with a company from northeast China's Dalian City at the expo.

"The expo offers us an opportunity to reach China's decision-makers and Chinese buyers," said an exhibitor with the Frey-Sohler estate.

China's COSCO shipping group and Ansteel Group have also signed contracts with well-known international suppliers to build long-term strategic cooperation partnership.
