Argentina chefs set a new Guinness World Record of making 11,000 pizzas baked in 12 hours in Buenos Aires on Sunday.
The event, which was organized by the Association of Owners of Pizzerias and Empanadas Houses (Appyce), also set a new record for the highest number of empanadas with 11,000 produced in less than eight hours.
Manuel Jamargo, president of the Appyce, said the chefs needed 3,000 kilograms of flour, 3,000 kilograms of mozzarella cheese, 1,200 liters of tomato sauce, 150 liters of oil and 88,000 olives to accomplish the "crazy dream".
The record holder used to be an Italian team which made a total of 10,065 pizzas baked in 12 hours back in 2017.
"I'm here to try the pizzas. I think this is a good chance to how they make the pizzas and also to know the difference between Italian pizzas and Argentine pizzas," said Jessica Feggio, an Italian student.
The food used for the competition was donated by different organizations and the money obtained from the sale of pizzas and pies will be donated to the Down Syndrome Association of the Argentine Republic and the Leandro Olmos Foundation.
