Storyline

A bear was spotted crossing a highway on Thursday morning in Fuyuan City, of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

Video footage shot by a local resident shows a large bear crossing a multilane highway before disappearing into the forest.

A local resident who saw the bear called the police immediately. Police officers soon arrived on scene, accompanied by staff from a nearby natural reserve to inspect the bear's tracks.

"According to the video and the measured data we got from the scene, we speculate it's an adult bear which is three to four years old," said Zhao Wanqian, a staff member of Sanjiang National Nature Reserve.

This was not the first time wild animals were spotted in Fuyuan City. Wild tigers and swans, as well as other endangered birds have previously made appearances in the area.
