Storyline


Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visits to Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Panama have received extensive acclaim from the international community and his speech at the G20 summit in Buenos Aires is claimed to be significant in charting the course for the development of the world economy.

During his visits, Chinese President Xi expressed welcome to Latin American countries to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative. Meanwhile, China, Portugal and Spain seized the opportunity to upgrade the relations and invigorate their relations.

China's advocacy for building a community with shared destiny has won thumbs-up from many countries.

"the Concept of 'community of shared destiny' means that the destinies of these countries are inextricably intertwined. And it's based on win-win cooperation. It's inclusive; nobody is excluded; and it's not against anybody. So everybody benefits, everybody gains. And I think this is also in my view, in the contemporary 21st century concept, an alternative world view," said Mushahid Hussain Syed, chairman of the Senate Committee on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

In his speech titled "Look Beyond the Horizon and Steer the World Economy onto the Right Direction," at the first session of the 13th summit of G20, Xi urged the G20 members to forge strong partnerships and ensure strong, balanced, sustainable and inclusive growth of the world economy.

The speech showed that China and other countries are keen to work with one another in the spirit of openness and mutual respect to take up challenges to multilateralism.

Xi's state visit to Portugal is very successful. People from all walks of life agreed that Xi's visit had the whole world focus on Portugal and it is inspiring to see the visit giving a powerful impetus to the economic relations and social development of Portugal.

Eduardo Hilario, a Portuguese lawyer that has had business contacts with Chinese clients for decades, said that Xi's visit has heightened the attention of the world to Portugal.

"We've noticed everywhere that we are news not only in China, but we are news all across the world. I think this is the best way and the best advertising that a country can have," he said.

He added that the cooperation between China and Portugal in trade and finance will become stronger and this state visit has already benefited the development of Portuguese tourism.

He added that the companies from China and Portugal not only benefit from the Belt and Road Initiative, but also make contributions to it.

Portugal is a member of the Belt and Road Initiative and both the state-owned enterprises and private companies have participated in it.
