Storyline

Heavy snow pummeled the U.S. city of Chicago from Friday night, cutting power supply and forcing the cancellation of about 1,000 flights at the local airports.

The blizzard dumped snow as deep as over 30 centimeters in some areas.

The continuous snowy weather cut power supply for about 100 communities, leaving the residents in darkness and cold.

In the meantime, the bad weather has put huge pressure to bear upon the local traffic, with all the starting trains and nearly 1,000 flights called off.

Many passengers were stranded at the airports and railway station and some have stayed there for about 24 hours.

"I was delayed.I drove down about 300 miles from Wisconsin down here last night to catch a plane to go home. And I found out when I got here that the flight have been canceled. And more importantly, when I asked when I could get another flight, they said that I could get the same flight tonight, which is 24 hours later," said a passenger Robert.

The snow stopped on Saturday afternoon, but more snow will come to this area and its neighboring states from Saturday night to Sunday, according to the weather forecast by the U.S. National Weather Service.
