"China has made clear its solemn position on the Meng Wanzhou case. Anyone with normal judgment can know that Canada made a serious mistake from the beginning because obviously the Meng Wanzhou case is not a common judicial case. It is an abuse of extradition treaties between the United States and Canada and a serious violation of Chinese citizen's safety and legitimate rights and interests."

China urged the United States to drop the extradition of Huawei's chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou from Canada, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Tuesday.
Her comment came after Canadian media said that the United States will proceed with the formal extradition of Meng from Canada, where she is currently on bail. Hua said the incident is an "abuse of extradition treaties between the United States and Canada."

It is an abuse of extradition treaties between the United States and Canada and a serious violation of Chinese citizen's safety and legitimate rights and interests," Hua said.
Meng, also a daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, was arrested on Dec. 1, 2018, in Vancouver for alleged violation of sanctions on Iran and then released on bail on Dec. 12.
Canadian law allows 60 days for the U.S. to make extradition request for Meng Wanzhou and Jan. 30 is the deadline. David MacNaughton, Canadian ambassador to the United States, said the United States has told Canada it will extradite Meng, but American authorities have yet to formally make that request.
