Storyline

China's Hangzhou City joined hands with Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles to celebrate Chinese Spring Festival from Feb 9 to 10 for the very first time.

The celebration, Hangzhou Showtime, brought in Hangzhou's brilliant traditional culture of tea and calligraphy, and showcased its most famous UNESCO heritage sites, the West Lake and the Grand Canal.

Visitors were attracted to take photos with the renowned symbols and learned to write "Fu" with calligraphy brushes.

"This is the fu symbol. If you turn it upside down, this means it’s coming to you. So, that means fortune is coming to you," said a boy, holding a Chinese character Fu decoration.

Famous scenes from Hangzhou's story 'Legend of White Snake' were recreated at the event. Performers dressed up like Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen, the two leading characters in the story, and gave red envelopes to visitors.

"It is our first time receiving it. I think it’s really neat. I'm really proud to be part of that tradition. I'm honored," said a visitor, displaying her red envelope.

Masters of Yueju Opera and bamboo weaving were also invited to display the charm of Hangzhou's rich history.

"It's very fun and very difficult, but it's very interesting," said a teenager, who had just learned how to make a bamboo weaving basket.
