China's ministries jointly released the big data of passenger travel demand during the period between Feb. 11 to 24 on Sunday.
According to the data released by the Ministry of Transport, the National Development and Reform Commission, National Railway Administration and Civil Aviation Administration, the passenger flow will continue to run at high level on Feb. 11 and then decline gradually in the following days. The second passenger flow peak after the Spring Festival will appear on Feb. 20.
It is expected that passenger flow will be mainly concentrated in the central and eastern areas. The provinces with a large number of passenger departures mainly include Henan, Anhui, Hunan, Sichuan, Hebei and other labor exporting provinces, and provinces and cities including Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Beijing and Shanghai will receive the bulk of the passengers.
During the period, passengers mainly went out for short- and medium-distance travels, and the passenger flow will mainly migrate from the surrounding cities to mega cities or provincial capitals.
It is expected that Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan and Anhui are the top provinces in terms of passenger flow during the period.
The Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Feb. 5 this year, is traditionally the most important festival for the Chinese people to have family reunions. The Spring Festival travel rush, also known as "Chunyun" in Chinese, started on Jan. 21 this year, and nearly 3 billion trips are to be made via China's transport system over the 40-day period.
