Storyline

The 20th China Development Forum officially opened in Beijing on Sunday.

Vice Premier Han Zheng attended the forum's opening ceremony, where he highlighted this year's theme of "Greater opening-up for Win-Win Cooperation". Han said that opening-up benefits both China and the world and that China will continue with the policy.

"China has been expanding its market access, setting up pilot free trade zones and free trade ports, improving the business environment to a large extent, and welcoming more participants in the Belt and Road Initiative. Opening-up has become a distinctive symbol of contemporary China," said Han.

At the opening ceremony, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission Ning Jizhe also pledged to introduce more measures to protect the rights of foreign investors and to open up more sectors to foreign investment.

"In the next step, we will further improve the management system of foreign investments. Based on the Foreign Investment Law approved by the National People's Congress, we will quickly formulate relevant regulations to protect the legal rights of foreign investors. We will also further shorten the negative list for foreign investment access, deepen the opening-up of agriculture, mining, manufacture and service industries, allowing wholly foreign-owned businesses in more sectors," said Ning.

More than 50 officials from departments in the Chinese central government and over 150 overseas delegates are participating in the forum, including 96 executives from the world's leading companies and nearly 30 world-renowned scholars.

Forum topics include supply-side structural reform, new proactive fiscal policy measures, and the opening-up of the financial sector.

The forum's Economic Summit, which started in Beijing on Saturday, will run through Monday.
