The Belt and Road Initiative will make contributions to the fulfillment of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, if the initiative can realize its goal of the involvement in infrastructure development and investments, according to an official of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Zhang Tao, IMF's deputy managing director, said that the initiative will deliver tangible benefits to people across the world if its potential benefits can be brought out.
"One of the main parts of the Belt and Road Initiative is infrastructure development and investment, which is consistent with partial content of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. If the Belt and Road Initiative can make its contribution on this aspect, it will contribute to the fulfillment of UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," said Zhang.
Zhang also warned about the sustainability of receiving countries' macroeconomic policies, especially debt sustainability, while carrying out projects under the initiative.
The more carefully the problems are thought out, the more helpful it will be for the initiative to meet its expected results, said Zhang.

According to the latest data given by the World Bank, the international cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative would boost the world economic development by at least 0.1 percentage point in 2019.
A total of 152 countries and international organizations have signed cooperation documents with China on the initiative over the past six years, official figures show.
Proposed by China in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and aims to build a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa through the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road.
