Storyline

China criticized Australia for banning it from involving in 5G projects, stressing that any country should not adopt discriminatory measures to impose restriction on Chinese products or suppliers, said Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng on Thursday in Beijing.

Recently, a number of Australian media reported that relevant Australian law mandated communication enterprises install "backdoors" for the Australian government. Google, Apple, Amazon and other technology companies have expressed serious concern about the act, saying it threatens cyber-security in Australia and other parts of the world.

While the Australian side previously claimed that the country does not want any company in its communications networks that have an obligation to any other governments. For this reason, Australia banned Huawei from the 5G telecommunications network.

Gao said, "China maintains that restrictive and discriminative measures on the basis of nationality will not bring security but disrupt the global industrial chain and hinder technological applications and technological progress."

"Cybersecurity is a global challenge. In the era of economic globalization, no member [of the international community] could stand aloof and concern only about itself in this regard. All members should join hands to work together to jointly meet the challenge so as to achieve its own security through common security," added Gao.

A week ago, Chinese Foreign Ministry also commented on this event, urging relevant countries to offer a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for enterprises of various countries, including those from China.
