Storyline


Chinese President and Central Military Commission Chairman Xi Jinping held a group meeting Tuesday morning with the heads of foreign delegations invited to the multinational naval events marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy.

Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and military, extended warm welcome to naval officers and men of various countries who are in Qingdao, a port city in east China's Shandong Province, for the celebration events.

Xi said that all the navies should respect each other and treat each other as equals, enhance mutual trust, strengthen maritime dialogue and exchanges, deepen pragmatic cooperation, take a mutually beneficial and win-win path of maritime security, join hands in coping with all kinds of common threats and challenges at sea, and work together to maintain maritime peace and stability.

The Chinese president said that the cooperation in sea-based market, technology, information and culture is growing closer daily and the Chinese navy is willing to make positive contributions to marine development and prosperity.

Xi said that China values the seas as life and sets great store by building the maritime ecological civilization, strengthening the prevention and control of marine pollution, protecting the marine biodiversity and realizing the orderly development and utilization of marine resources.

The Chinese Navy will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with navies of other countries, fulfill its international obligations, safeguard security of international navigation channels and strive to provide more marine public safety products, said Xi.

President Xi championed the idea of "Building a Maritime Community of Shared Future", saying China hoped to absorb all useful ideas, enhance consensus, and contribute China's wisdom to the cause.

Royal Thai Naval Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Luechai Ruddit, on behalf of the heads of the delegations, congratulated China on the 70th anniversary of the founding of its navy, and said he believes that the idea of a maritime community with a shared future would promote navies to work together to safeguard marine peace and prosperity.

Xi took a group photo with the heads of the delegations before the meeting.
