Storyline

Logistic supports have helped ensure successful missions for the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.

The navy's logistic abilities have been improving with its number of supply ships reaching over 10, including comprehensive supply ships Hulunhu and Chaganhu.

"Speed of our ship's replenishment has been doubled or become even faster. The supply ships are able to set off for missions at any time," said Zou Jing, captain of comprehensive supply ship Chaganhu.

Equipment of the navy's various supply stations have been improving.

"Back to 10 years ago, or even seven to eight years ago, we still had to use manual ways to load supplies onto ships and keep accounts, which was very inconvenient for officers and sailors on board the ships," said Zhu Feng, officer of a supply station for the PLA Southern Theater Command.

As the missions of the navy extended further to the distant oceans, the reform of on board food has also seen steady progress. Most food and vegetables carried on board can be stored up to over 45 days.

"Many people may think that submarine soldiers could only eat canned foods or hardtacks during their oceangoing voyage, and fresh vegetables would be in short supply after a week at sea. And with the development of science and technology, especially after we adopt the new technology, we can have fresh fruits and vegetables during the entire oceangoing mission," said Li Ming, officer of a submarine unit under the PLA Southern Theater Command.

Tuesday marks the 70th founding anniversary of the PLA Navy, with multinational naval events being staged in eastern China's port city of Qingdao.
