Huawei has been preparing for the U.S. trade ban and will have no problem without American chips, founder and chief executive of this China's tech giant Ren Zhengfei said on Saturday.
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce put Huawei and its affiliates on an "Entity List," which would restrict the sale or transfer of U.S. technologies to the company.
While having an interview with Japan's Nikkei Asian Review, Ren slammed U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration for blacklisting Huawei and its affiliates for posing a so-called national security threat, adding the company has done nothing illegal.
Ren said Huawei's growth may only slightly slow down due to the ban, but the U.S. government will lose credibility by repeatedly threatening its trade partners.
Huawei's chipset subsidiary HiSilicon said on Friday it will use backup chips it has independently developed for years to cope with the ban from the United States.
President of HiSilicon He Tingbo said in an internal letter to staff that Huawei has been preparing for a scenario of survival in extreme conditions when all the advanced chips and technology from the United States become unobtainable.
Founded in 2004, HiSilicon provides chipset solutions for wireless communications, smart devices, digital media and other fields.
