Storyline

Eight warm-hearted taxi drivers have dedicated their time to getting a girl suffering from bone cancer to school for over a year in Shuangpai County in central China's Hunan Province.

Han Li is a senior in a high school, and she was diagnosed with osteocarcinoma - a type of bone cancer in 2014 and had to have a high amputation of her left leg.

The distance between Han's school and her home is two kilometers which is tough for Han to go to and from on her crutches, and taking a taxi is not an affordable option for her low income family.

In March 2018, driver Xu Bin read Han's story on the internet. Xu contacted her and promised to send her to school at 06:50 and pick her up at 17:30.

"I get up very early every day. The drivers are always waiting for me downstairs to get me to school," said Han.

Xu invited seven other drivers to join in on the send-and-pick-up.

"We made a rotating timetable for eight of us. If someone is busy, we will communicate and hand over to others to ensure there is always a person sending her safely every day," said Xu.

As China's national college entrance examination started on June 7, sending Han for the exams became their last mission. The eight drivers made a schedule that every driver takes charge of one drive to ensure Han attend the exams on time.

"Every time, he (Xu Bin) opens the door for me when I get in and out of the car. Sometimes, he drops me off very close to my classroom. When it’s raining, he holds an umbrella for me. I'm very touched," said Han.

Han thanked the drivers, since she has never been late for school in the last year.

"She loves laughing. Her optimism infected us. We send her to school every day so that she can have more time to study," said Jiang Huiyang, another driver.

"I hope to have a stable job and help those who need help just like me," said Han.
