Storyline


The 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) kicked off Saturday night with the opening ceremony being broadcast live by the China Media Group (CMG) with 4k ultra-high definition technology and 5G network for the first time.

Held by the CMG and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the event has attracted a total of 3,964 films from 112 countries and regions.

Fifteen nominated films will contend for this year’s Golden Goblet Awards. The 15 films will be evaluated by a jury led by Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylon, and the awards are expected to be unveiled on June 24.

The 10-day festival consists of activities including the opening ceremony, the Belt and Road Film Week, as well as forums and exhibitions concerning the movie industry to promote international communication and inspire innovation in the industry.

"More Chinese filmmakers of the new generation are willing to demonstrate their talent on stage at the film festival and they leave their excellent works and movie dreams in the city after the festival," said Hu Jinjun, deputy director of Publicity Department of Shanghai Municipal People's Government.

Founded in 1993, the SIFF is a competitive global event driven by Shanghai's efforts to become an international cultural hub.
