The University of Michigan said the consumer sentiment index in June was 97.9, down from 100 in May and lower than last May's index figure of 98.2.
The recent report also showed that 40 percent of consumers surveyed had expressed concerns about possible impacts on U.S. economy brought by trade tension. The figure surged from 21 percent in May.
The Business Roundtable, formed by a group of chief executive officers of major U.S. corporations on June 12 also publicized its CEO Economic Outlook Index in which business executives lowered expectations for hiring, investment and sales in the second quarters of this year for uncertainty in global trade.
