Storyline


A schoolbag factory in Pyongyang, capital city of Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), is aiming to promote their products to international markets.

The Pyongyang Bag Factory, located on Thongil Street, manufacture bags under the "Pine Tree" label. Opened in Jan. 2017, the factory has the capacity to produce over 242,000 schoolbags and 60,000 ordinary bags a year.

In the sample room, schoolbags of various colors and designs for students in primary schools, junior high schools and colleges are on display.

The bags are all domestically developed and manufactured, according to the manager of the factory.

"We produce these schoolbags for newly enrolled primary school students and college students in Pyongyang," said the manager.

The factory now has about 300 employees. More than 60 steps are required for the production of the schoolbags, some of which are controlled by computers, with high production efficiency.

The number of schoolbags produced is set according to the number of students in Pyongyang, and the country provides subsidies for the products. The bags are provided directly to students with low prices.

Although the factory is young, the "Pine Tree" schoolbag have won praise across the country. The employees hope that one day the brand will enter the international market.

"Our factory is less than three years old, but our products now are already getting closer to international levels. Tailors like us are also trying to improve our skills and we hope that our products will be competitive internationally in the future," said an employee.
