Firefighters in many Chinese provinces have recently conducted mock drills for flood fighting and rescues to better their emergency response capabilities as the country enters the flood season.
In a rescue operation in the drill in northeast China’s Jilin Province, firefighters delivered life rings to the people trapped in Songhua River with the help of a drone. In addition, rescuers also approached the trapped people by setting up rescue ropes across the river.
In another rescue exercise in east China’s Jiangxi Province, firefighters used professional rescue equipment such as speed boats to search the water and evacuate those trapped in roofs or islands in Bali Lake. More mobile guard sites with rescue equipment were added in the operation to improve patrolling of the affected area during a flood emergency.
"We have deployed rescuers along the Poyang Lake, major levees along the Yangtze River, and other vulnerable places to ensure timely and effective operation once there is an emergency," said Ma Jianming, leader of a rescue team with Jiujiang City of Jiangxi Province.
