Storyline


Two people were killed and 12 others went missing after an explosion rocked a gas plant Friday afternoon in Yima City of central China's Henan Province, local authorities reported.

Another 18 people were seriously wounded in the explosion that happened at around 17:45 in the air separation unit of the Yima gas factory of the Henan Coal Gas (Group) Co., Ltd.

All the injured have been taken to the hospital, according to local officials.

Mobile phone footage showed billowing smoke rise from the blast site, as well as shattered windows on nearby buildings.

Rescue workers, firefighters and doctors were sent to the site which had been cordoned off by police.

Rescuers said their priority is to locate the missing people and to completely extinguish the flames.

The explosion did not occur in the gas tank areas, but all production has been stopped, according to a Yima city government source.

An investigations into the cause of the blast is underway.
