At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bandari, Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the second informal meeting with Modi and pay a state visit to Nepal from Oct. 11 to 13, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying announced Wednesday.

China's Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui said at a press briefing that this will be Xi's first visit after the grand celebration for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

He said that during the informal meeting in Chennai, India, Xi and Modi will have in-depth exchanges on the development of China-India relations in strategic, overall and long-term perspectives, set the tone for the development of the bilateral ties in the next phase, and provide stability and inject positive elements to the current world beset by uncertainties.

Xi and Modi had their first informal meeting in Wuhan City, central China's Hubei Province, on April 27-28 last year.

Luo said that in Nepal Xi will attend a welcome ceremony, and a welcome banquet hosted by Bandari, meet with Bandari, hold talks with Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and witness the signing of cooperation documents during his visit.

The leaders of the two countries will make new plans for the development of China-Nepal relations, jointly start a new era of rapid development of the bilateral ties, deepen political mutual trust, cement the foundation of public opinion for lasting friendship between the two countries, promote high-quality joint development of the Belt and Road Initiative, accelerate the development of the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network, and add new drivers to pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two countries, said Luo.
