Storyline

China on Thursday urged relevant parties in the international society not to further complicate the Syrian issue and reiterated its stance for safeguarding Syria's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The remarks by Geng Shuang, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, came after the Turkish Armed Forces began a land operation into northern Syria against the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) late Wednesday.

Noting that favorable changes have taken place in the Syrian issue, Geng asked the international community to work together for a political settlement.

"China believes that the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria must be respected and safeguarded. Relevant parties in the international society should join hands in creating a favorable condition for the political settlement of the Syrian issue, and avoid adding new complexity to the situation in Syria," said Geng.
