The China-developed AC313 helicopter highlighted its emergency rescue capabilities at the fifth China Helicopter Exposition that kicked off on Thursday in Tianjin, north China.

The heavy-lift helicopter has a total takeoff weight of 13.8 tons and is suitable for emergency rescue operations, forest fire response, transportation, offshore operations and medical aid.

AC313 demonstrated its highly effective rescue capability by carrying 20 firefighters to an affected areas and transferring and rescuing more than a dozen people in the emergency drill at the expo.

"In case of the standard layout, the helicopter can carry 26 people. But during rescue missions, including emergency rescue, it can carry 30 to 40 people as the seats have been removed. The aircraft also has a stern door which is wider than the cabin door. Rescuers can pass through the stern door with high efficiency.

In order to perform well in the firefighting operation, a water tank was installed on the ventral, which enables the aircraft to pour more than three tons of water in no time to achieve the effect of accurate firefighting.

In the fourth edition of the expo, AC313 carried a bucket to pour water. The bucket kept waggling and affected the aircraft's center of gravity.

"Compared with the bucket, the water tank has less effect on the center of gravity, because the bucket affects the center of gravity a lot when it is shaking. And when you suddenly drop it, it doesn't have to be in a position of gravity to drop the weight," said Li.

In fact, AC313 helicopters have played an important role in the forest fire prevention and control many times. The earthquake relief simulation presented at this expo also lays the foundation for an actual rescue in the future.
