The 7th Military World Games are to open Friday night in Wuhan City of central China's Hubei Province.

The event, running from October 18 to 27, will start with a two-hour grand opening ceremony featuring artistic performances under the theme of peace and friendship at the Wuhan Sports Centre Stadium.

Organized by the International Military Sports Council, the event will gather thousands of military personnel from 110 countries to compete in 27 sports including naval pentathlon, aeronautical pentathlon, shooting, swimming and basketball.

This year's event is expected to be one of the largest in the history of the games,since it was launched in Italy in 1995.

The games are being held every four years in different parts of the world.
