"We express our strong indignation and firm opposition to the U.S. House of Representatives' passing of the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act. China made a comprehensive response to it this morning, and it should be noted that the Foreign Ministry spokesman and some other departments have made statements on this issue. I would like to stress again that we will take effective measures to counter the wrong decisions and actions of the U.S. side that harm China's interests, and resolutely safeguard our own sovereign security and development interests. China reiterated its strong indignation and firm opposition to the U.S. House of Representatives' passing of the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act 2019, said a Foreign Ministry spokesman on Wednesday.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the act, proposed by some congressmen, on Tuesday local time despite strong opposition from the Chinese government.
Geng Shuang, the spokesman, expressed China's strong indignation and firm opposition in a press statement on Wednesday morning, and reiterated China's position at a regular press briefing in the afternoon.
"We express our strong indignation and firm opposition to the U.S. House of Representatives' passing of the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.
