Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev on Monday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday.
The Russian official is in China to attend the sixth meeting of China-Russia law-enforcement and security cooperation mechanism and the 15th round of strategic security consultation.
Xi said that China and Russia have successfully held celebration events to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties this year, which indicates that bilateral relations have entered a new era.
The Chinese president said that China and Russia, faced with the complex and volatile international situation, should stand even closer and always be sincere and trusted strategic partners that provide firm and effective strategic support to each other.
Xi stressed that some Western countries, including the United States, have increased their interference this year in the internal affairs of China and Russia, which threatens the sovereignty security as well as the economic and social development of the two countries.
He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that such practice is indeed utterly wrong and serves no one's interests, and the Chinese side fully agrees with this view, added the Chinese president.
He said that no force can hold back the development of Chinese people and the Chinese nation, and neither will Russian people be affected by external interference. Instead, they will adhere to their own path of development.
China and Russia should take full advantages of the sixth meeting of China-Russia law-enforcement and security cooperation mechanism and the 15th round of strategic security consultation as platforms to strengthen strategic security exchange and strategic mutual trust, safeguard the core interests and common security of the two countries, and maintain peace and stability in the region as well as across the globe, Xi said.
For his part, Patrushev said Russia and China shared a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership of great strategic importance, and bilateral cooperation has reached an unprecedented level in all fields and bilateral ties have remained unbreakable.
He said that the current policies that the U.S. government has followed not only harm the interests of Russia and China, but also have a negative impact on the overall international order and system.
Russia and China share the same or similar positions on many international issues, and the two nations should continue their close coordination, safeguard their sovereignty and security as well as the strategic stability across the world, advance multi-polarization and democracy in international relations, and maintain the international law and a just international order, said Patrushev.
