The annual Central Economic Work Conference was held in Beijing from Tuesday to Thursday, as Chinese leaders charted course for China's overall economic development in 2020.
In a speech at the conference, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, reviewed the country's economic work in 2019, analyzed the current situation and outlined key tasks for 2020.
The meeting was also attended by Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng -- all members of the decision-making Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
The country has made new significant progress in the building of a moderately prosperous society in all aspects, according to the meeting.
The year 2020 will be the year to finish building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects, and it is also the final year for China's 13th Five-Year Plan for National Socioeconomic Development, said the meeting, which instructed that efforts should be made to ensure that macro-level policy is consistent, that micro-level policy will inject dynamism into the market, and that social policy sees the satisfaction of basic living needs.
The meeting also called for macro-economic regulation that is forward-looking, targeted and effective.
The meeting said economic works in 2020 should focus on the following aspects:
-- Firmly implementing the new development vision that features innovative, coordinated, green and open development for the benefit of all;
-- Advancing the three tough battles of eliminating risks, poverty and pollution;
-- Effectively ensuring and improving living standards of the people, particularly realizing effective guarantee and improvement of the basic livelihood of the masses of the people in straitened circumstances;
-- Continuing to follow a proactive fiscal policy and a prudent monetary policy;
-- Making great efforts to promote high-quality development;
-- And deepening reform of the economic system.
