Storyline

Sensors will be integrated into intelligent infrastructure of the Xiong'an New Area in north China's Hebei Province so as to build a smart city, according to the local authorities on Thursday.

The authorities announced this at a press conference about infrastructure innovation. Besides usual infrastructure for water, power, heating, etc, Xiong'an will set up sensors to achieve a smooth flow of sensor data.

"We hope to build a city with a complete sensor system to make all kinds of sensor data flow in a common channel. Only in this way can a city have a complete nerve system," said Liu Jiyu, an expert working on Xiong'an intelligent infrastructure construction.

Xiong'an has developed its own intelligent access device which can be attached to urban facilities like lamppost and then form a mass network.

"In the future urban environment, you will face numerous sensors and products. An intelligent gateway must ensure full collection of all sensor data, because we always say it is an important centralized access device of our urban public services. Actually, it is like a bus in public transport. A bus should be able to effectively carry all passengers and people," Liu said.

So far, Xiong'an is under construction and innovation results unveiled at the press conference will be applied to ongoing projects.

In April 2017, China announced the establishment of the Xiong'an New Area, spanning three counties in Hebei Province about 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing. Xiong'an will be the location for many of Beijing's non-capital functions and relocated population.
