3. SOUNDBITE(Chinese) Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson, Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council:
"Since the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) came into power in 2016, it has refused to admit the 1992 Consensus, unilaterally undermined the common political basis for the development of cross-strait relations, supported and indulged the the secessionist activities of 'Taiwan Independence' forces, and obstructed and restricted cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation. It has also buoyed up by leaning onto foreign forces, continued to spread the separatist remarks full of the 'two countries' theory, wantonly attacked the mainland, incited cross-Strait hostilities, and raised cross-strait confrontation. This is the primary cause of deteriorating cross-Straits relations, interrupting consultation and dialogue and making cross-Strait situation more complicated and grimmer."

5. SOUNDBITE(Chinese) Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson, Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council:
"Here, I want to make four points in response. First of all, sticking to the 1992 Consensus which reflects the one-china principle is an unshakable foundation of peaceful and stable cross-Strait relations. It is easy to move a mountain, but it is difficult to change the 1992 Consensus. Secondly, the secessionist forces advocating 'Taiwan independence' and their activities are the biggest threat to the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and the biggest scourge for the wellbeing and interests of the compatriots on both sides of the Strait. They must be firmly contained. Thirdly, the trend that the cross-Strait situation will be going toward peace and stability and the cross-Strait relations will be moving forward cannot be stopped by any person or any force. Fourthly, the future of Taiwan lies in national reunification and the well-being of Taiwan compatriots depends on national rejuvenation. Taiwan is the Taiwan of all Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots, and its future will be jointly determined by all Chinese people."
