Branching out as ghostly silhouettes, the top layer of ice on Butterfly Lake in Gongliu County, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region acquired branching cracks that are pleasing to the eye.

Following a sudden temperature drop, an icy layer was formed on Butterfly Lake, which is located to the west of Mount Tianshan.

Treelike cracks of different sizes divide the ice and present a scene that is rarely seen.
