The temporary hospital set up in central China's Wuhan International Exhibition Center received its first batch of patients infected with the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) with mild symptoms on Wednesday night.
The first batch of patients arrived at the hospital around 21:00 aboard three buses.
The convention center-converted hospital received two batches of more than 100 patients from Wuhan Red Cross Hospital, and community hospitals in Qiaokou and Jianghan districts on the day.
Upon their arrival, the patients were directed to a special channel to check for their identity. After the check-in process, the patients were shown to the designated area for further treatment.
The hospital, specially designed to treat patients with mild symptoms caused by the virus, is able to hold 1,800 patients. Once the patients' condition is deemed to be critical, they will be transferred to other places.
On Monday, the headquarters for the epidemic control of Wuhan City said it planned to convert three existing venues, the Hongshan Gymnasium, Wuhan International Conference and Exhibition Center and a cultural building complex dubbed "Wuhan Livingroom", into hospitals with a total of 3,400 beds to meet the need for treatment.
