The United States must abandon its Cold War mentality and ideological bias and stop slandering China's political system, said a spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
The spokesman, Geng Shuang, made the statement at a press briefing in response to the remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in an interview with the Fox Business that the Communist Party of China has infiltrated various levels of America's infrastructure, and that Chinese embassy and consulates in the United States have participated in the infiltration.
Geng stressed that China has always adhered to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
The Chinese embassy and consulates in the United States and various people's organizations have always acted in compliance with the international law and the China-U.S bilateral agreements. They contact with the U.S. governments at all levels for the purpose of stimulating mutual understanding, exchanges and cooperation. That is reasonable, legitimate, open and aboveboard, beyond reproach, said Geng.
China is following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is the most essential feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This is the choice of history and the people. Any attempt to drive a wedge between the Chinese people and the CPC is futile, said Geng.
The spokesman said that over the past 40 years since China and the United States established diplomatic relations, the bilateral relations, though experiencing twists and turns, are generally moving ahead and bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. A sound and stable China-U.S. relationship conforms to the interests of both countries, and is also what the international community expects, he added.
We admonish some people in the United States again that they must abandon the Cold War mentality and ideological bias, stop slandering China's political system and stop doing things that interfere with and undermine the normal exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, said Geng.
