Storyline

An additional medical team from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) began its work Friday in Wuhan city of central China's Hubei Province, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pneumonia outbreak since mid-December 2019.

So far, the Chinese military has deployed more than 4,000 medics to Hubei in the ongoing fight against the epidemic disease that has killed more than 1,300 people in China. The medics are part of the more than 10,000 medical workers sent to Hubei by other Chinese regions, the military and Central Government agencies.

Deployed in the Taikang Tongji Wuhan Hospital, the additional medical team has conducted thorough consultations with the original staff of the hospital, and will help treat its 143 patients infected with the novel coronavirus.

"After our 1,400 members arrived yesterday, we dropped our luggage, briefly straightened up and immediately rushed to our battle ground. Last night, our medical treatment team, nurse team and logistics team all met with the original staff of the hospital. And this morning, we had conducted another in-depth discussion over the patients' conditions and their treatment plans," Zheng Xishui, director of the hospital, said in an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN).

The PLA medical team will take full advantage of the current resources, set up clinical wards for the patients and establish other auxiliary departments for epidemic prevention, tests, radiodiagnosis, and medical engineering as soon as possible, according to Zheng.

"Next, we will immediately arrange for staff to scientifically conduct technical and self-protection trainings. We will fight against the disease and take in more patients in a fastest speed, fulfilling our mission and responsibilities as people's soldiers in the combat against the epidemic," Zheng said.
