4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Zhao Lijian, spokesman, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"Under the current situation, China would like to work together with Japan and the ROK to improve and intensify the communication and coordination in the emergency response mechanism, strengthen information sharing, exchange experience and technology and carry out cooperation in diagnosis and treatment schemes as well as the research and development of drugs and vaccines. We would like to work together with the two countries to conduct joint prevention and control against the epidemic. We will intensify prevention and control measures at ports, strengthen inspection and quarantine and reduce unnecessary cross-border tours. Although China is at a crucial moment in epidemic prevention and control, still it will do whatever it can to provide assistance to the ROK and Japan, just as an ancient Chinese poetic lines: 'Fear not the want of armor, for mine is also yours to wear', which conveys a touching message of empathy from close neighbors."
