China's stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.17 percent to finish at 2,781.59 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 3.22 percent higher at 10,241.08 points.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, went up 3.25 percent to end at 1,937.85 points.
